Tozeur



Tozeur is a Tunisian city which is located in the south-western part of the country, by the chott el Djerid. The Romans called the city Thusuros and in the ancient time it was one of main Roman outposts. It was also an important stoppage for the caravans who headed to the coastal cities in the Mediterranean for trade.


Tozeur to the tourist world is known for its beautiful oasis .The region is not completely flat and is characterized by several tiny valleys and riverbeds, also it is known for its 14th century medina and botanical gardens, palm grooves, natural springs and also for many other stunning views. It is also renowned for its world-famed dates.




The remarkable architecture of Tozeur and the unique doors with two to three knockers have equally fascinated the tourists visiting the place. From visiting historical buildings to adventurous hot-air balloon tour, tourists visiting Tozeur has everything to enjoy.




Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions is a mansion of a holy man and in the sma ll rooms of Sidi Aissa’s you will find some decorative elements used to make the interiors of the house more beautiful. There are also old documents written in Arabic which describe the process of distribut ion of water between the houses .




The Marabout of Sidi Bou Lifa is one of the most beautiful marab outs in Tunisia. The jujube tree which stands close to the tomb of Sidi Bou Lifa.Past the Marabout of Sidi Bou Lifa is a zoo and garden where you can see some animals and flowers.



The garden features many beautiful flowers and trees and usually Pheasants roam within the garden fearlessly. The zoo, though small has many interesting animals like baboons, lions, boars, snakes, camels…etc.

Mahdia


Mahdia is a tunisian coastal city, it is located between Sousse and Sfax. This city has one of the most mervellous virgin beaches in Tunisia which charms the people visiting it.Well-known for fish processing and weaving industry Mahdia is one of the most important touristic city in tunisia .



Mahdia was enclosed by 10 metres thick wall which was strong fortress in the ancient times now functions as the gate to the city. Mahdia is woven with narrow streets, trees, cafés and different styles of architectural buildings.


The Black Passage or the Skifa el-Kahla which is an attractive passage was the only entrance to the city and it is one of the best examples of Tunisian sea-ports.




The Great Mosque of Mahdia was mainly influenced by the ideals of the Fatimids. The most noted feature of the mosque is the entrance which typically influenced by the Roman triumphal arches.






One of the most important site in the city is the Archaeological Museum which displays archaeological objects pertaining to the period of Punic, Roman, Christian and Islamic era.

Sousse is located on the eastern coast of Tunisia and has become one of the most favored tourist destinations because of the varied attractions the city has to offer.

It flourished under Roman and Byzantine rule, but declined in the Islamic period. The impressive ruins that are visible today give some idea of the resources of a small Roman town on the fringes of the empire.


6. Fortified Granaries in Tunisia:

To protect their crops from invading nomads from nearby lands, the early people of Tunisia built granaries of impressive architectural design and structure. Until now, these granaries still stand strong and, in fact, have been visited by tourists all around the world. You will surely be impressed with the splendor of Tunisian architecture.

7. The Ribat:

The Ribat is a North African name for holy men. The elegant Ribat was constructed in 821 AD by the Aghlabid rulers as a fortress against the Sicilian Christians. The Ribat at present stands on the Place Farhat Hached. Three of the sides around the courtyard were the rooms confined to the soldiers and the 4th side of the courtyard was the prayer hall. On climbing the tower, you can have a spectacular view across the medina, the Great Mosque and the port.


8. Amphitheatre of El Jam:

In the small village of El Jam stand the impressive ruins of the largest colosseum in North Africa, a huge amphitheater which could hold up to 35 000 spectators.

The construction of IIIe century illustrates the extent and greatness of the Roman Empire.


9. Punic Town of Kerkuane and its Necropolis:

This Phoenician city was probably abandoned during the First Punic War (c. 250 B.C.) and as a result was not rebuilt by the Romans. The remains constitute the only example of a Phoenicio-Punic city to have survived. The houses were built to a standard plan in accordance with a sophisticated notion of town planning.



10. El Ghriba Synagogue :

The ancient El Ghriba Synagogue, also known as the Djerba Synagogue, is located on the Tunisian island of Djerba. It is situated in the former Jewish village of Hara Seghira, (currently known as Er-Riadh).
The synagogue is the destination of an annual pilgrimage of many Tunisian Jews for the holiday of Lag BaOmer, which takes place after the celebration of Passover.

Port ElKantaoui

Tunisia is known from many places to visit but the most famous is the marina of Port El Kantaoui.


Port el-Kantaoui was established in 1977 as Tunisia's first purpose-built tourist resort, and is now a fully-fledged town and one of the country's most popular destinations. Modeled on the French Rivera’s Port-Grimaud, the resort is built in Andalucian-Moorish style around a huge marina.
