Mahdia


Mahdia is a tunisian coastal city, it is located between Sousse and Sfax. This city has one of the most mervellous virgin beaches in Tunisia which charms the people visiting it.Well-known for fish processing and weaving industry Mahdia is one of the most important touristic city in tunisia .



Mahdia was enclosed by 10 metres thick wall which was strong fortress in the ancient times now functions as the gate to the city. Mahdia is woven with narrow streets, trees, cafés and different styles of architectural buildings.


The Black Passage or the Skifa el-Kahla which is an attractive passage was the only entrance to the city and it is one of the best examples of Tunisian sea-ports.




The Great Mosque of Mahdia was mainly influenced by the ideals of the Fatimids. The most noted feature of the mosque is the entrance which typically influenced by the Roman triumphal arches.






One of the most important site in the city is the Archaeological Museum which displays archaeological objects pertaining to the period of Punic, Roman, Christian and Islamic era.
